Just off the coast of the southern end of Anaria there’s an island called “Wizard’s Isle”. And as you might be apt to suppose, a very, very powerful wizard lives there. But unfortunately Whodrennen, that’s the wizard’s name, is not a very good wielder of powerful magic. His spells are apt to misfire at the most unfortunate times. Once, he burned up a whole town. In fact that was the horrendous event that precipitated his moving out to the island. It took Whodrenen three years to finally and correctly make the spell that built his tower, and after that he had to rest for quite awhile. Imagine all the power of nuclear bomb and the control of a two year old.
Anarians occasionally, risking their very lives, would visit him and request some bit of this or that magic where upon they were promptly asked to sign a bit of legal magic called a bodily injury waiver. Some did, and some did not sign and were lucky enough to go away in one piece, however disappointed they were.
Mikiloni, a wizard of great stature in Anaria loves to mozy on down to his favorite pub to regale anyone he can find with his favorite jokes, songs, and tales from his exploits as a young wizard. Of course in the process somehow you always end up buying a round or two for him. Rumor has it, that his greatest magic trick is that he’s never paid for a drink, even once.

Everyone believed Wizard McGoggle to be the best seer in the land. It simply was not true. Oh he had a talent alright but not for scrying into the crystal ball. Actually that crystal made a nice place for his friends to land and tell him many things. Which brings me to his true talent. McGoggle could understand and talk to the wee dragons of the land, sometimes called pocket dragons because they could fit into very tiny spaces. Most people thought of them as pests, little better than rodents, if they thought of them at all. Which is why as you see, McGoggle was able to put his talent and theirs to good use. The tiny dragons spread out across the land and would report on a near daily basis the goings on in the land. Conversations, trysts and plots that were meant to be private soon found their way to the ears of the wizard. That’s what made him so very bloody brilliant when it came to advising the king and everyone else. Not only did he know everything in the land that was going on but he also knew if the king was thinking something particularly foolhardy and dangerous, the wizard was able to gently nudge the royal into a much more productive direction. All in all it was a tremendously beneficial gift that McGoggle used wisely on behalf of the royal realm. Thank goodness that he was not a dark wizard!
